Materials Characterisation and Pre-formulation

The PMBRC has a suite of analytical equipment capable of fully characterising active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, in-process intermediates and finished products. Properties important in pre-formulation and powder behaviour such as surface area, pore size and volume, particles size, phase transitions, stability, solubility, pKa, and partition coefficients can all be measured. Current research includes relating these properties to processing performance during manufacture and the PMBRC has a number of projects ongoing with pharmaceutical companies in this field.
